pc dies after 3 seconds
Hey all, I have a self built computer(wasn't sure exactly what forum to go for so I ended up here
) It's a year old but I recently replaced the psu(everything was working fine) then I replaced the mobo and now when I try to power up the pc it dies after *about* 3 seconds(just after the cpu fan starts spinning). tried clearing the cmos and all that. I have a new 620W psu which worked fine with the other components so it can't be that(i think). Just a little stumped as to what it is, tried starting without graphics card, and with only one ram chip but to no avail. So basically I'm confused. When it's plugged in the mobo does light up so it's definately getting power, and for the three seconds it is on all the components(other fans, graphics card fan...) seem to start working too. any ideas? Thanks

Re: pc dies after 3 seconds
Remove all of the computer parts again and only reseat the power supply, motherboard, cpu, one stick of ram, and videocard. Then turn on the computer and see if the problem goes away. Could be a grounding issue.

Re: pc dies after 3 seconds
I suspect when you replaced the motherboard, that one of the motherboard standoffs might be in the wrong place for this board. Just make sure that there is a hole for every screw and a screw for every hole, no more, no less. (usually 9 for standard boards). If not correct, the board is shorting out.

Re: pc dies after 3 seconds
Hey mate and welcome to TSF...
You older Motherboard was faulty or you just wanted to get better one??? If your previous Motherboard is fine, try to start PC with previous one again to see if all other components are OK... If you succeed in that, then Tumbleweed is right [maybe you hooked new Motherboard wrong or it might be faulty]... Hope this will help you mate... |

Re: pc dies after 3 seconds
Do let us know. A hole for every post, a screw for every post....no more, no less. Sure sounds like that might be an issue. A misplaced one can cause exactly what you are seeing.
