New built computer doesnt work

So I gave it a shot and am trying to build my own computer. I bought a barebone kit from tigegerdirect and attempted to put it all together. When i first turned it on all of my fans and lights came on but nothing else was functional. Stumped, i took it to the geek squad and a few days and a couple hunded dollars later they said it was a bad mother board. I bought a new mother board, gave it another shot but i still get the same results. My dvd drives dont work while they are connected to the mother board but if i disconnect them and have power to them they open and close no problem. My monitor has the color bars on it until i go to turn it on then everything goes blank.

So does anyone have any suggestions as to what my problem is?

Re: New built computer doesnt work

so thanks for the help. it turned out to be a bad power supply after all. I just went out and bought a new power supply to test before i sent my mother board back and my computer actually booted.
