Alrighty guys I browsed your forums and was quite pleased that I might get replied to so here goes.

I'm currently upgrading my Desktop Spec's are

CHIP - Intel Core2 6400 @ 2.13MHz
VID CARD - NVIDIA 7600GT
RAM - 2.0BG Ram
MOBO - Gigabyte 965P-S3

Now with a bit of searching I've come across these parts but was wondering would I be able to use my old chip or would it be advisable to upgrade :P

CHIP - E8400 Intel CPU 3.0ghz "fact is I want to keep it in the 400-500$ price range this will blow it too 600$+, I know i'm cheap but lack of funding atm cause no job atm lo but if needed i can bump up price rangel"
VID CARD - 8800GT 512MB Asus
RAM - 2GB KIT Kingston possible around 800HMz "Current ram is cheap 333MHz "
MOBO - Gigabyte P35-DS3P

If you can give any answer, would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone lives around the VIC SE Suburbs ie. KnoxField, Ferntree Gully etc and knows of any good place to buy such parts or good dealeo, would be also greatly appreciated.

Also found HD 4850 as an option for VID Card, would that be better then a 8800GT 512mb?

The HD 4850 is slightly faster than 8800GT and 9800GT.

It sounds like your buying a totally new computer, do you really need a new mobo??

What are your reasons for upgrading? What will you use the computer for? We could probably get you upgraded to a high standard without replacing the mobo, saving you money.

Well my reasons was that I find the computer sluggish at time, takes forever for start up, and most time just freezes on basic tasks like Opening My Documents.

Mainly want it for Gaming as I play quite a bit.
And just a general faster system then what I have now.

Getting the parts for around 480$

I'll try and haggle with them but I doubt they'll go any lower :P

Wish I lived elsewhere as the prices are pretty high here lol

if you have the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 that is able to have a bios flash and take the E8400 no new mobo needed ?????????


and the ATI 4850 is a better choice it beats the 9800GTX
