question about working inside computers

hey, i hope this is the right forum for this. i couldn't find one specific one for it but i am about to work inside of many computers. replacing various parts and maybe building a few machines. i bought an antistatic wrist strap but could find no grounding mats. i have been searching online but they seem to cost 500 dollars. do i just need a rubber mat to stand on and attatch my wrist strap to or do i need one with metal attached to attach my wrist strap?

Re: question about working inside computers

rubber mat works fine

you wont really get any efficient "grounding" achieved until you add the power supply and the motherboard to the chasis ....... then when you connect your wrist strap to the case ..... the grounding is then really complete to the electrical wall socket grounding

I work the case from a rubber mat and have NEVER had any issues
