computer upgrade
I bought this computer from (Vantage Computers. out of business now.)
about i year ago (new) I use it mainly for surfing net and altering photo's with , corel draw and photoshop. Recently it tends to freeze up alot, sometimes it goes ok but occasionally i have to reboot, also if i leave it for a few hours i cannot get on internet , and have to reboot. I have tried windows xp and windows vista. I have basic computer knowledge,and could anyone help me with problem, or suggest any upgrade that would help. thank you. my system is :- amd skt 939 motherboard asus a8n-sli se 680 watt thermotake purepower psu ( 17db) processor amd 64-bit 3700+ (skt 939) 2 gb ddr400 pc 3200 memory 80 gb serial ata150 7200 rpm hard drive geforce 6600 256 mb ddr+dvi/tv pci-x Last edited by elvis35to05 : 07-08-2008 at 05:43 AM. |

you have any anti-virus software running on your PC??? Scan PC, maybe it could be some virus attacks since you said you were surfing internet... Report back please...

So have you tried doing a reinstall of XP and Vista? If so, you might want to update your drivers...
I had recently installed XP SP2 on a computer, and I have found that you need to be careful with some of the updates...I went through the auto updater (not the website) and installed some updates that must have not gotten along with each other b/c the computer began locking up on a regular basis (this puter had OOo and Firefox on it, nothing else). Had to roll back XP in safe mode to resolve the issue. |

When the screen freezes (and you cant do anything) this can usually be because of heat issues. Install 'Everest' or 'Speedfan' to check your cpu temperature and post back.

Hi thanks everyone,
I have anti virus , did a check and found no virus. i re-installed windows and updated by website. installed everest got info:- cooling fan chipset 6.0 cooling fan cpu 3.2 cpu diode 33 temperature cpu 34 motherboard 34. hope this helps, thanks again. |

okay, do you have the most recent drivers for your motherboard and VGA card? sometimes these can be updated as well to resolve issues. you don't necessarily get these through windows update...sometimes you need to go to the mfrs website and find the drivers...
