Re: Need Help with New Comp
Hi Justin, welcome to TSF
The Samsung 740BX Syncmaster is a good monitor for gaming. It has a 5ms response time and a native resolution of 1280x1024, although I did see one review saying it has a 2ms response time. Check the manual to confirm. Either way, as long as it's below 8ms, you'll be ok. Will this be purely a gaming computer (meaning high-end graphics and a good sound card), or do you need it for other things as well (like multimedia editing which would need lots of RAM and storage space)? Do you have a preference for CPU..... AMD or Intel, dual or quad core? What size hard drive do you need? Which OS will you be installing? XP, Vista, Linux, etc. 32 or 64 bit? 32bit is the most common, but 64bit will allow you to install more than 3GB RAM if required. Note: All current games will run perfectly well with just 2 or 3GB RAM. Building it yourself would be the best option, if you can get a friend to help you out, or post here for more detailed advice. The next best option would be to select the parts you want and then buy them online and get your local PC store to put them together. They might be able to do you a better deal if you buy the parts from them, so check first. I wouldn't recommend buying a prebuilt computer as the components won't be as good and the PSU won't allow for future upgrades.
