Roll Eyes [SOLVED] Upgrading System

Doods, what's the cheapest, trustworthy PCI-E compatible mobo out there?
How much does a GeForce 6800 GS cost today? Does AGP and PCI-E versions have the same cost?

Re: Upgrading System

I would be very surprised to find a 6800gs today...getting hard to find. Do you have a particular socket you are looking for with this board? AGP sockets are also getting hard to find.

Re: Upgrading System

Sorry, I meant to ask what socket your CPU is.

PCIe cards tend to run cheaper now, the AGP cards are harder and harder to find...and the selection keeps going down.

I'll tell you now that while crysis will play on a lower end computer you're looking to build, it won't have the wonderful graphics that make the game...

if you do not have the money, remember, if you change motherboards, and if the operating system came with your computer, or the os was oem, you will have to purchase a new operating system. OEM operating systems is not transferable between motherboards.

Oh, so PCI-E is cheaper nowadays? Before, PCI-Es cost so much. How much does a PCI-E 6800 GS cost nowadays?

My OS is [cough] craked version, so no problem with OS. And my motherboard is AGP, but I found an AsRock mobo which is really cheap and got a PCI-E slot.

come on patriothntr i know youre watching pls share your infinite wisdom

is it possible for pci-e 6800 to cost as low as $75?

Re: Upgrading System

Hey mate,
You probably can find PCI-E 6800 for that amount of money but will be hard because it is a low-level graphic card and those cards are hard to find these days [you can try E-Bay or Amazon or etc.]
If I am you, I would go for 8400GS [75$] or 8500GT [100$] because they are way too much better...
But if you buy more powerful graphic card, you should consider buying new PSU or more RAM maybe...
Think before you do anything please... ^-^

Re: Upgrading System

Wow, a 8400 GS costs $75! I'd definitely buy that instead of a crappy 6800 GS! Although I'll probably need to get a better PSU.

Re: Upgrading System

Now a new question, whats the cheapest, trustworthy PSU out there that can run a system with:

A Core 2 Duo processor
A 8400 GS video card
1.5 Gb of RAM
2 HDDs at 7200 rpm
An optical drive
An LCD monitor

Re: Upgrading System

If it was me I would be looking for either a FSP or Seasonic 330-400 watt unit...like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151038
or: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104031
(note that these units only has 2 SATA connections...so maybe not the best choice if you don't have an extra converter hanging about)

a nicer option: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=Seasonic+330W
