graphics card opinions
I'm starting a new build and have narrowed my selection of vid cards down to 2:
EVGA GeForce 8800GT Superclocked, and EVGA GeForce 8800GTS (G92) Now, the specs of the two cards seem close enough that either one would make a decent choice, the biggest differences in my eyes being the cost and the size of each card (the gts being the larger card; the gt being the smaller, cheaper one.) I've read dozens of reviews for each and just can't seem to decide between them, so I'm looking for some opinions from you guys. Discuss! ![]() |

Re: graphics card opinions
They're both quite nice...The GTS has a reference 2 slot cooler, blowing hot air out, which I like a lot.
If you get one of the GT cards with the dual cooler, I would be searching by price. |

Re: graphics card opinions
The 4850 should be compared to the 9800gtx...it does cost a lil bit more at the moment...You can pick up a 8800gt for $130 or so now...Lowest I've seen a 4850 has been $150.

Re: graphics card opinions
Well, I'm more of an Nvidia guy, so ATI is out of the question.
Also, I've built a couple of systems for people who requested a 9000 series card, and I'm DEFINITELY not impressed by them. Even the 9800GX2 is a poor replacement, conisdering the price-to-perfomance ratio, not to mention the power consumption/heat issues. I'm all but convinved that it's a case of "bigger number MUST be better," which has been a problem with computer components for a long time. (i.e. 9800 is more than 8800, so it must be better! )As I've mentioned, my choice is between the 8800GT and GTS. I'm still not sure if the GTS is worth it for the price difference it offers from the GT (about 50 bucks at last check.) I really do like the slot cooler, but the added size and power consumption is a little off-putting. Still debating it with myself... |

Re: graphics card opinions
Well guys, thanks for the help but the decision has pretty much been made for me. I'm going with the GTS G92. (Got one of those "off the back of a truck" deals... hehe.)
Anyway, thanks again for all the advice. For the price I'm paying, I can't pass it up.... ![]() |

Re: graphics card opinions
i'd agree for most people. newegg has some evga's (keep in mind evga'sthe leader in the BIOS 1.0 department) that were factory clocked at 650, 660, and 675 MHz.
