Overhauling COmputer

Hi, Im gonna overhaul my computer, which is..

AMD X2 4000+ CPU
X1950Pro 258mb
M2v-mx mobo
1Gig of ram
80G HDD
400W PSU

To

8800GT 5xx(something) mb
something quad core... maybe at 2.4ghz from intel of course
P5N-D mobo
4 gigs of ram or maybe 8gigs
500Gig of HDD
600W PSU?
DVD and CD writer+reader

thing is tho, I'm planning to keep the 80G HDD along with the rest of the stuff, but I've heard somewhere that putting a HDD with OS already installed can cause some problems (or was it the other way around).

And Im also not sure if 600W will feed this monster

600W is ok. but get a decent brand.

i think you'll have to remove the windows installation (format?) and start anew. you CAN reuse that hard drive, by all means, though.

Re: Overhauling COmputer

It's how much energy the chip will need...and the heat that needs to be removed b/c of it. The TDP on the q6600 is about 150w i beleive, the 45 nm fall to 95w

You will need to do a repair install of windows when you put the old HDD in the new puter...make sure to back everything up on it, as the repairs can potentially go wrong...

Re: Overhauling COmputer

no, i don't think so. the best i can say it is that it's the amount of heat generated by that amount of power that is able to be dissipated.

Re: Overhauling COmputer

Well, it might need a lil more to run peak...

For chips, it's the amount of heat energy that will need to be dissipated by a cooler.
