Looking for some MOBO recommendations.
I am currently looking at a new comp build and really have everything else squared away except for the motherboard. I was looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188024, but have decided it is WAAAAY to much system for me.
I am looking for something more on the cheap, but still VERY upgradeable. I am going Q6600, and 9600 for those parts. DDR 2 ram, DDR 3 is just to spendy. But I am looking for something easy to build off of, and stable. Thats the main thing for me STABLE. I SLI is a must, if only because I want the option to be there if I decide to do it, *which I very well might*. I am leaning towards EVGA for the board, but I have heard that the 6xx / 7xxi chipsets are not the most stable. ASUS looks good. Do you have any suggestions? This is the one I am currently looking at. ANY feedback would be welcome. |

Re: Looking for some MOBO recommendations.
I'm using a p6n sli fi that works just fine and dandy...i'm not pushing it that hard, but it OCs pretty well...
For the most part EVGA uses reference nvidia designs, with one 750i board being the exception...they are pretty much the same as the XFX boards which are also basically reference. ASUS is okay as long as the board isn't cutting edge...they tend to release boards and then fix the BIOS issues later...so later boards have better stability. |

Re: Looking for some MOBO recommendations.
Well its quickly becoming appearent to me that I dont really have any idea as to what I want out for a MoBo / GPU combo. Heres what I prefer.
Socket 775. Dual Video card support. SLI support (But I will settle with CrossfireX if I know before the build that it will spupport that and not SLI) Also PCI-E 2.0 is rathe rimportant just to kepe the system forward thinking. Outside of that I am really open to ideas. Right now I am kinda bugging about the Nvidia chipsets is they have that video issue. Is that Only for the 700 Series? How reliable are the 600 series? I am looking for something that will have a lot of forward buildability. Which is why the 780i sets really appeal to me except for the Video issue. Thanks so far for the feedback guys. Please keep the suggestions coming. I appericiate it all! Last edited by Narynan : 06-25-2008 at 06:10 PM. Reason: SLI talk |

Re: Looking for some MOBO recommendations.
Both look ok. Are either of them PCIE 2.0? That Gigabyte seems like it has issues out of the box just look at the newegg reviews.
Does anyone know if the 680i nVidia chips are PCIE 2.0 comp? |

Re: Looking for some MOBO recommendations.
Alright cause I am looking for PCI-E 2.0 preferred. The Video card i'm looking at right now is
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130334 Like I said. I will deffientally go CrossfireX if that better suits my needs. I just have a preference to nVidia. *Strange as I have never used one fo their cards before.* Will the above card hooked up in SLI work on a 680i board? Cause it seems like 680i is the board I am leaning towards. A little more infor for anyone else who is looking. I am probally going to be keep some light parts out of my old computer *a socket 478 // AGP // DDR 2700 and no SATA support.* So I am looking to know if I am keeping 2 IDE 250 GB HDD's. PSU --550 W Antec Neo 2 year old Antec case. * I dont remember the model number* Should I just keep my older system complete work working? Or scrap it and keep what I can? because right now I dont have much more than about 800 TOPS to build a system. So the HDD /// case's and PSU are salvageable, and upgradeable at another time. BUT Is it even worth it? Should I just spend it and buy outright the new system and keep the old one as a HTPC? Anyway... let me know. Still on the hunt for a MoBo. At this time this is the one I am leaning towards, and long as it can take the above video card in SLI. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188013 Last edited by Narynan : 06-25-2008 at 07:21 PM. Re: Looking for some MOBO recommendations.
I guess right now the main question I have is.....
Can this board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188013 Use this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130334 In sli? Even thought the card is 2.0, and the board is not? |

Re: Looking for some MOBO recommendations.
To be honest with you, you can get a fairly decent computer for about the price you're looking for, and save the old one and it's components for a HTPC or to sell...
To answer your last question, yes...you can SLI the 9600gt with the 680i board even though the board is 2.0 and the card isn't. ~P |

Re: Looking for some MOBO recommendations.
Yeah I was thinking pretty much the same thing. But I dont know if I have the funds up front to do it. My biggest concern is that I have to wait for about 2 1/2 -- 3 months for the funds, because I just dont have the cash to upgrade everything all at once. Because as I mentioned above, I have a LOT of old tech.
So a rebuild to the spec I am looking at is about 1000 for everything. which is a lot of money out the door, coinsdering i dont wanna throw it on the Credit card. And thanks for the information about the MB, that pretty much solidifies that one for me. Might get it on new egg. But might see if I can find it local retail. |
