Question Need Help 1st Time.

Hello , this is my first time on techsupport and i am interested in building my own computer. I'm a bit of a newbie at this so forgive me.

My own computer decided to die on me, it wasent really worth fixing as it was old .The only important components were the crucial ballistix 2gb ram, and the agp Ati x800 graphics card.

Recently my Cousin sent me a dell dimension 2350 but it is a buisness computer (sorry dont know all the specs), 512mb Ram, intel celeron 2Ghz CPU, no Video card, no sound card. Its nice and everything but i want to play some games on it as well as browsing the internet.

It dosent have a AGP slot for my graphics card, It had a 30gb hard drive (i switched the one with my broken pc, now has 120gb) and it cant hold my ram aparently (according to crucials pc scanner)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The 15 questions:

1. Budget: €250 - €270 .

2. Brands: Would Prefer ATI graphicas card as i heard of faulty NVIDIA cards.

3. Multitasking: At most ill be downloading , browsing the internet and playing a single player game (Half life 2 or something similiar)

4. Gaming: The games would be mainly World of Warcraft, Counter Strike source, Battlefield 2 and unreal tournament 3.

5. Calculations:nope.

6. Overclocking: no.(dont know how to)

7. Storage: the 120gb from my broken pc will do.

8. Legacy Support: i dont think so :S

9. Operating System: Windows xp

10. Case: Can I use the Dell Case? Please answer this.

11. Accessories: no thanks already have the accessories.

12. Recycled Components: yes. hard drive, cd/dvd drive , Ram (if i can) Power supply if i can.

13. Monitor: have one already.

14. Stores: komplett.ie

15. Location: Ireland

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I have already made some choices for the graphics card , motherboard, processor, but im not so sure that they will work together.

Heres Links:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA69

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2.8GHz Socket AM2 2MB, BOXED w/fan

Graphics Card: GeForce 8500GT 256MB DDR3, PCI-Express,

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Can you give me some advice and tell me if those 3 parts will work together and if not tell me what would replace it.

Thanks very much of your time.

Re: Need Help 1st Time.

Since you stated a preference for ATI look at this card
http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=337062
The board and CPU will work together as will the video card you selected.
As for the case I not sure board will fit perhaps someone else here has experience with this model Dell.
also if the Dell only has a 20 pin power connector so you will need to upgrade the power supply because all newer motherboards have 24 pin connectors to run the video card.
Did you look the Gigabyte GA-MA69 motherboard up on Crucial as well as scan your Dell to see if the memory matched?

Re: Need Help 1st Time.

This is the very bare minimum I would use for a Power Supply
Http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=341177

And from looking at the Dell site your current ram is DDR and you will '
need DDR2.

Re: Need Help 1st Time.

No way you need 600w to run a 8500gt. That's overkill...400-500w will do you just fine.

Also, DDR and DDR2 memory are NOT interchangeable...you have to stick with what is in your board.

Re: Need Help 1st Time.

well for the future its better to get more than u need than less...what if you wanted to upgrade to a better graphics card or added more components to your pc that will require more power to run your pc?

but w/e you want

Re: Need Help 1st Time.

You could add 5 HDD and a few optical to that setup and still be fine.

If you are planning on putting in a more powerful card within the year, then get a better PSU...if not, go for what you need...you'll save the difference in buying a new one in energy costs.
