Problems - Help please

Hi,

A system I've built and upgraded over the last few years died on me awhile ago, I'm just now getting around to taking a serious look at it. Also, forgive me if I don't know what I'm talking about - I've been out of the loop for awhile.

My first instinct was the power supply since on start-up the only thing that happens is the CPU cooling fan winds up, a green light in the bottom right hand corner of the mobo comes on and there's a high-pitched "wine" coming from the PS. The PS fan doesn't come on and after about 3 seconds the CPU cooling fan slows to a halt. The green light stays on the whole time.

When this first happened I quickly went out and bought a really cheap replacement PS thinking that might fix it. This second one does absolutely nothing, not even the fan on the CPU gets moving.

Is this a problem with the PS and for some reason the second one doesn't work at all? Should I try a third PS or is there something else going on? Thanks for any advice!

The motherboard is a Soyo P4I865PE Dragon 2. The original PS was an Antec 400W SL400 and the replacement PS is a Powmax 400W LP6100.

Try a new CMOS battery....similar looking to the one in this picture:

Thanks for the suggestion, CTSNKY. Would the CMOS battery dying cause the power supply to be acting funny?
