Wire issues.... help me!

Put together an old pc for a friend who just can't afford a new one...

I had this old Compaq Presario 7000 tower

Put in an asus a7v8x-LA board I got out of an old HP. I can not for the life of me get the wires set for the front panel. Note: all wires are free and separate, please anyone who knows respond!

Here are 2 pages I found for reference:

http://www.angelfire.com/ex/kltsin/frontpin.html

http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/OEM/HP/...et2_manual.pdf

The two picture's that I attached, on the left was from the tower, as I said all wires are removed from black casing... on the left diagram for the asus board.

Re: Wire issues.... help me!

You just need to follow the wires to the lights and buttons then change things around.

Re: Wire issues.... help me!

if it's a switch then there's no polarity. if it's a led, just put in in and if the led doesn't light up you know it's the wrong way round.

no magic tricks at all.

Re: Wire issues.... help me!

Well after several attempts I’m left with a black screen. So either wires are crossed or I somehow damaged the mobo with all the attempts...

Re: Wire issues.... help me!

These front panel cables wouldn't affect anything about the operation of the computer except the inability to power on the PC. So you said the wires are all seperate, and not in that black connector in the picture?

Re: Wire issues.... help me!

Yes the wires are not connected!

At first when I did power up the pc I saw the boot screen now it's black...

Not hearing any beeps as well.

took out the video card a few times and set it back in place to see if that was the issue, still black screen.
