Which CPU?

I am planning on building a computer that will be mostly for gaming. Im not sure which CPU would be best. I was looking at :
1. Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz

2. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz

Anyone have an opinion on which is better? Thanks.

Re: Which CPU?

The e8400 will be a little faster for gaming.

Re: Which CPU?

a lot of benchmarks have proven that the E8400 out performs the Q6600 in gaming. That's probably because games have not taken full advantage of more than two cores.

Re: Which CPU?

The e8400 will use more of the capabilities of the CPU (many applications won't use all 4 cores) than the Q6600. IMHO, if you are challenging the computer, the e8400 wins this one hands down, unless you are doing the type of task and using software that can take advantage of the quad core. Those applications and usages are few and far between. Don't misunderstand, the Q6600 it is a great CPU, but in a heads up battle with most normal applications, the e8400 will win. I made this same decision about a month ago and I am happy I chose the e8400.

Re: Which CPU?

Wish I could get those new cpu's. Mine only supports the regular core2duos and quad cores.
