Powering case fans via USB
I wasn't really sure which section to ask this in, but I decided to start here.
So, I've been thinking of constructing for my laptop a new lapdesk with fans for added cooling. My questions are these: I am looking at using case fans that say they run on 12V and I've read that USB ports only supply 5V. Would it be worth it to under power them via the USB ports. Also, I've read that using a USB port like that could cause problems, like with the motherboard. Finally, does anyone have any ideas on how to power case fans whilst keeping the mobility intact in the lapdesk? Say, somehow getting power from the AC adapter? Y-adapter for the AC adapter? Thanks for anything. Last edited by Rayvin; 05-21-2008 at 09:45 PM. |
