Advice for buying new desktop
Have 5 year old Compaq Presario 6320US upgraded to 1G RAM and a CD-RW/DVD-ROM and am ready to replace. I do NOT require game capability but want to edit and produce DVD's that are highlights of transfers from (very) old 8 and Super 8MM movies. The originals have already been trascribed onto DVDs. Have run into problems using Roxio 10 and suspect I am asking too much of my old system. I am happy with my ViewSonic flat screen monitor. I prefer to buy HP/Compaq or Lenovo. I also would prefer to avoid using Vista and stay with Windows XP. Please advise (but not too techie - I'm almost 80).

Re: Advice for buying new desktop
Perhaps I haven't posted this in the right forum. The advice I'm looking for regards what components I need to include in order to process my video files without overloading with capabilities I do not need such a those required for games. This is one reason I prefer to stick with XP. Also, much of my software is on floppies ( ie MS Office) and some others which adequately serve my limited usage. I therefore need a FDD. My internet connection is cable. What else should I consider?

Re: Advice for buying new desktop
something like this with another gig of ram added and a floppy drive
have you considered putting your floppies on to a cd or dvd they will last longer http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/...mc_id=ZWB12091

Re: Advice for buying new desktop
It's the Word software itself that's on the floppies. My data is indeed backed up on CDs. Lenovo is the one I've been looking at but the ones available say no FDD. Do you know of an external FDD?
