Here's my budget gaming rig. Suggestions?
So... I think I've got everything:
CPU- AMD Phenom 8650 Toliman 2.3GHz for $165.99 (a little on the fence about this) Mobo- ECS A780GM-A AM2+/AM2 for $69.99 - I'm not sure if this support tri-core CPUs Graphics card- MSI N9600GT-T2D512 GeForce 9600GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3-132.99 RAM- G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 for $79.99 PSU-APEVIA WARLOCK POWER ATX-WA750W 750W ATX12V for 89.99 Case- RAIDMAX AZTEC ATX-619WY Black/ Yellow SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case for 59.99 DVD Drive-ASUS Black 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM SATA DVD-ROM Drive Model DVD-E616A3T - Retail for 20.99 Hard Drive-HITACHI Deskstar P7K500 HDP725032GLA360 (0A35411) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive for 79.99 The total is: 699.92 W/ mail in rebates. So, if there are any comments or suggestions you'd like to give, I'd be happy to listen. My main concern is whether or not the mobo supports the tri-core processor or not. Also, I'm wondering if I should switch to the AMD 5000+ black edition and overclock it to save 65 bucks. Which should I go with? Last edited by Goomba000; 05-15-2008 at 07:40 PM. |

Re: Here's my budget gaming rig. Suggestions?
OK. I'll take your advice on the PSU. What about the processor? Is it better I get the X2 5000+ black for $100, save $65, and overclock it to 3.0Ghz or something like that? I read somewhere that having a tri-core processor doesn't do much for gaming. Oh, and does the mobo I picked even support tri-core? That would really stink if I bought the X3 and plugged it in only to find that the BIOS is only picking up 2 cores. What's your call?

Not too sure about the X3's. I think that I'd read somewhere on the net that they were just the X4's that had a dead core and AMD was marketing them as X3's as a way to sell them. Not sure how much truth there is to that but just thought that I'd mention it.
