Hello, how can i optimize my new build please?

I am good at assembly, and did some hurried research to put this system together after my Dell Dimension 8200 just couldn't keep up with The Sims for my daughter. This is what i bought and put together and installed Vista 64 bit. Box - Antec Sonata 3 ATX 500w case, motherboard - Gigabyte-GA-E35-DS4 775 P35 ATX, Intel Q9450 Quad core, 8GB of Corsair xm52 6400 DDR2, videocard - Sapphire-HD3650 512mb-DDR2 PCIE, Plextor 750A DVDR/W transplanted from the Dell, and a new Samsung multi-drive DVDR/W, HD/Blu-ray player. I was told that this board and chip combination can be overclocked to run at 3.0 ghz, and 1333 fsb. The memory will support up to 1600mhz. Question is, how do i overclock, and stay within a long LASTING setting but run at performance. I will spend what is necessary to optimize. Thanks for the help.

If you are willing to spend what is necessary to optimize, I would start with a real good and strong power supply. I love the Antec Sonata III, but the first thing I did when I received mine was sell the Antec 500 Earthwatts (which is a good power supply for the average user) on Ebay and put a 700 Seasonic power supply in there. 500 watts just isn't powerful enough to do the things I think you want to do. I would suggest around a 750 in a brand name like Corsair, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling, Thermaltake "toughpower" series only, Silverstone, etc. Then you would be in business to optimize this baby.

That is my opinion of the most pressing need you have. BTW, some very nice choices you made with this fine rig.

Thank you Tumbleweed. I did have reservations about the 500w power supply, but went with it anyway, like i said, it was and emergency research and build. The Blu-ray player seems quite compatible with the graphics card, but is there an upgraded one that will work better with future games, or am i fine for now? And can you suggest a blu-ray burner to look at?

A really good performing videocard that is the best bang of the buck IMO is the 8800GT. You can them for around 200 dollarish specially at Newegg.

Pretty good build, just remember though to be careful when it comes to overclocking. Overclocking can permanently damage your computer parts if your are not careful.

Ok, thanks for your advises. I think i will forget about the overclocking to sustain system longevity then. I will take a look at that 8800GT, and a 700w PSU. They both seem popular in a lot of threads.

When you get a 700+ watt power supply and an 8800GT, then you have a lot of options and can explore overclocking at that time. I think you have made a wise decision as you progress toward getting the most out of your rig.
