Help, New Build Wont Boot
OK, I have built a few machines before this one. My problem is that it turns on for half a second and then turns off UNLESS i disconnect the CPU POWER, then it will remain on and not turn off. I do not understand what would be causing this. I have reseated the cpu two times and I am certain it is in correctly.
Here is what I have Thermaltake Armor Series Case XFX 780i Mobo 4 GB OCZ Reaper 1066mhz memory Pentium Q6600 XFX 8800GT Video Card OCZ 700 Watt Gamestream PSU I would appreciate any and all input. thanks. |

Re: Help, New Build Wont Boot
Do you have another cpu to try? Are you sure cpu is installed
correctly, no bent pins..Are you sure all of the standoffs were used, and accounted for, board may be shorting..

Re: Help, New Build Wont Boot
Set it up outside of the case, set the mobo on the box your mobo
came in. You can eliminate possible grounding by this, and if it still does not work its much easier to pitch in file 13,,lol... Board may be bad, or cpu, if you have extra cpu, try that, or try cpu in a compatible board, do the same with the ram, if you have extra parts laying around like I do, it can be a big help. Good luck,,

Re: Help, New Build Wont Boot
I had 2 extra posts under the mobo that were not supposed to be there and they were causing it to short out. I took those out and now have everything hooked up and it turns on but there is no video. I think i may have fried something with those posts that related to the SLI slots. I am going to try a different monitor that is DVI instead of using the VGA-DVI adapter and see if that helps. If not, I think I will RMA the mobo.

Re: Help, New Build Wont Boot
Ya, you may have zapped the board. I am very careful on the placement
of the standoffs, just takes one in the wrong place for problems.

Re: Help, New Build Wont Boot
Yeah, I am a nub. I am going to test the video cards tomorrow to make sure I didn't fry those and the board is still good. If they working the board is going back. I have never RMAd anything before, do they test it before they send you a new one? Or do the just send a new one no questions asked? It is from Newegg.

Re: Help, New Build Wont Boot
Also, I just put the standoffs where the Case said too, I put one in each empty spot that had an A for Atx by it. Obviously there are different ways posts for different boards should be. I have learned a lesson by simply overloooking something so simple. Thanks for your guys help, I will update once I figure out what exactly is wrong.

Re: Help, New Build Wont Boot
You always need to account for the standoffs. I doubt if you rma
that they check it. Even if they do they will only be able to tell the board is bad. Chances are that the video cards and everything else survived.

Re: Help, New Build Wont Boot
tested the cards in my brothers pc today so i know that they work, I am 99% sure the slots went bad on the mobo. Also this board says its make for 800mhz ram but supports up to 1200mhz and this memory i got is 1033mhz. I am going to try it with this memory when I get the new board and if i still have problems I am going to exchange the memory too. Got my RMA approved and its going back tomorrow. I am really glad I found this forum.
