Ok, so first and foremost I'd just like to say that I'm hoping this is in the right thread, if not please feel free to relocate it to the proper place.

With that being said...
I'm looking to buy a new laptop, one that I would be able to customize my own parts in to. Now after a couple days of looking I've had people recommend me to two different laptop sites. Let me say right off the start that I'm looking for a laptop with good specs, one that incorporates a 17" monitor and would be able to run games such as Crysis and Assassin's Creed, while hopefully running the next-gen games coming out later this year. On the back burner, I would like to be able to use this laptop for most college tasks. :D

Now originally I was looking at a Sager NP9262. I'll list the specs off that I had selected.

Those are all the primary specs, please tell me if you'd like any other things known. Now after speaking to my brother about it, he told me that paying approx. 1-1.5 thousand more for this computer was not a good idea, and that I should go along the lines of something more like this Dell laptop which he recommended.

The price difference was the Sager at $3206.83 vs. the Dell at $1,824
I'm curious which laptop you would consider to be more cost-effective and moreover, if buying this Sager would be able to last me at least the 3 more years through college. Thanks for your help, and for reading the 'novel' I just posted.

thats one rocking spec on the Sager; I am in awe they were able to get those components to work in a laptop >>>>> you should be able to use it to dry your hair and heat your dorm room too ! the heat that comes off that video card is noticible !


if you are a serious gamer; the Dell spec is a dud as is ???


I would opt for a desktop computer myself / then you can work on it and upgrade it in the future, there is no practical working on laptops really /
and how much will you really be toting that laptop ????? not to mention gaming on a laptop screen is less than desirable

haha, yeah you do have a good point. I'm personally leaning towards the Sager, but I have to know that I can justify the price. About the screens though, I'm currently on a PC I built roughly 2 years ago, playing on a 15.1" monitor that has visible damage to the screen, IE there are a few dark spots (permanently dark) that were damaged in the moving of my LCD monitor. I'm not too concerned with carrying around the 12 lbs laptop, considering my books probably way twice that much anyway so I'm pretty used to it.

Anyway, on the whole I'm really trying to justify, 'Is the price of that laptop worth the specs it comes with?'

or if the Dell for $2000.00 is the ugly stepchild

they are worlds apart however !!!!



you could however build a rocking desktop for $2000.00 ......... one that would keep pace and beat the Sager that would me my move; never settle for a Laptop unless you know for sure you are going to be on the run and using it alot !!

I understand your point about the desktop, and while it is very valid I'm primarily looking for a laptop. I also appreciate your advice about the laptop,but I'm still trying to find a good solution to the problem so are there any other thoughts out there?

look for a name brand 17 with 88gtx or something
