Re: first time building a computer advise wanted.
o.k..i just finished a build so hopfully i can be of assistance. lets address this. nice to get a budget number so you know where to call it quits.
Case. look into full towers. if you are looking to be upradable than this will be handy. besides. they have alot more room and make the build nicer to do. but they can be BIG Memory. If your MOBO is DDR2 then i would suggest 4x1GB. that will be plenty. crusial balistics is a good choice. make sure the quantity/speed is also supported by your MOBO. 800 mhz is a solid choice. HDD you can get 500gb 32mb cache for not much more. I strongly recomend the 9600 graphics card. it will absolutly destroy the 8600 and the price is right. Palit microsystems make a great one(it is a BIG dual slot though) that you can run audio through for HDMI out. and it is like $150 bucks optical Drive. the samsung multi drive is a good choice. about $30 and it'll run quieter than most. floppy drives are pointless if you ask me. the only thing they are really used for are boot programs and bios flashing/updates. both of those can now be done with a usb stick or laser disk. make sure your drives are all SATA when you buy them i hope that helps.
