Re: No Idea Where To Start! Plz Help!

I recently built a new machine from scratch - I was in the same predicament as you...Where to start...

I looked through some computer magazines at adverts from various manufacturers, I read the magazine's comparison reports until I liked the look of one or two specific makes & models of machines slightly above my budget, (Working on the principle that it would be less expensive if I built it up).

Once I had an idea of performance and specifications, I then made a list of components each of my selected machines had. IE: Which Processor, Brand & model of mother board, sound system, video card, power supply etc

After modifying the lists to suit my needs (increasing the RAM for example), I then spent some time on Internet getting prices & delivery from various well known suppliers AND did an eBay search for the same.

My machine was built up from components sources from several different places.

I think I got as much fun & enjoyment putting the idea together, sourcing and then building as I have using it

There you go Andy - one mans experience... I hope others will also share their experiences.

Regards
Donald

this is what I am currently building...I'm expecting it to come to around 650 bucks without the case, hard drive, and CD drive.

that chip is actually pretty fast. high OPC. it does about 10 operations per clock, versus the 2 or 3 for netburst chips. it will be alot faster then anything you have right now
