Re: First timer rate my build
8gigs is a bit much. Unless you are doing a lot of video editing. Just from your choice of graphics cards I'm guessing you are building a gaming machine, in which case 4gigs of ram would be more than sufficient. You could put the extra cash towards a better motherboard.

Well the mother board is already bought and installed so it's too late for that, but can I ask, what is wrong with that one? Seems like it's a newish mid-high end mobo. As far as the 8gigs of RAM, why not? I mean will having 8 instead of 6 or 4 hurt my performance? Buying the memory was very cheap, all 8 gigs from newegg was something like $150. The 64 bit can use all 8 gigs and the mobo can use all 8 gigs... why not? Yes, it's going to be for gaming. I play WoW as of now, but I have a strong feeling I'm going to be leaving that over the course of this year and move on to something like AoC or whatever else peaks my interest. You know games that can use the multiple processor cores and the Dx10. Last edited by Fahrenheit; 03-28-2008 at 05:38 AM. |

Re: First timer rate my build
it will future proof you, and this is a good time to buy ram. i guess why not, just as long as you dont skimp anywhere else. i know a few other people with 8gb of ram and they say its worth it. but, if you ever need to cut anything else, make sure its ram first. 4gb will work fine also.

Re: First timer rate my build
Oh I wasn't implying that what you have is a bad motherboard, but if you had cash left to spare from the ram that's what I would recommend upgrading.
Why not 8gigs of RAM? Because 4gigs of the 8 are likely not going to see any use if all you plan on doing is gaming. It's not going to hurt performance, but it seems like a waste of cash. |

Re: First timer rate my build
i kinda agree. if possible, unless you already have it, i would get a P35 motheboard. much more stable, and many fewer headaches. if you already have the 750i dont worry it will work. for the ram thing, 8 gb will work you will have some performance gain however maybe not enough to justify the extra $ spent
