STOP error on new System start up
I'm not sure if this is in the right area feel free to move accordingly.
I'm rather new to system building and this is my first crack at it. Okay so I just built a new system a few days ago. Well almost new, I got a new Graphics Card, Processor, Motherboard and Case. I kept my old hard drive and the DVD and floppy drives. Now when putting it all together I made sure to have my ESD wristband on at all times and be grounded at all times. The hardware installation went smoothly and the first time I hit the power button everything turned on and the computer was working. I entered windows safe mode figuring I could not access windows regularly because I did not have all the drivers installed. I installed all the drivers in safe mode then restarted. During the windows loading screen I got a STOP error code 0X0000007E. So I began to check if anything was wrong, I reinstalled all drivers, I double checked all CMOS and jumper settings and I checked all the connections inside the computer. None of those worked and I got the same error. Then I tried to go into "Safe mode with Networking" but that didn't work. I got a windows message saying I need to re-register windows and I can't do it in safe mode. So you can see how I am stuck I can't register windows with out getting into it normally but I can't get into it normally because I keep getting that STOP error. Currently the computer can only run in standard safe mode and I am officially stumped as to what could be wrong. I'm thinking of just wiping the hard drive and reformatting. Any help would be greatly appriciated system components are below. AMD Phenom 9600 FXF GeForce 8600 GT XXX Gigabyte MA79OX socket AM2+ motherboard Corsair DDR2 Dual Channel PC 6400 RAM 160 GB hard drive (I don't know the specs for it) 500 Watt power supply by XION Case by XION and 2 DVD drives and a floppy drive. |

Re: STOP error on new System start up
Hi The_Eyes, you are on the right track about partitioning/formatting and doing a fresh install. There are way too many variables when doing a major hardware upgrade, it might not be able to do the repair install. Make sure when you repartition the drive, that your primary partition is at least 20GB or more. Also check to see what the most current bios release is for your motherboard. Mike
