building back up server
im kinda scared about our current computer situation: we dont have any back ups. at all. years worth of pictures, etc and financial documents are being "protected" on a 8 year old dell. i have my dad's support for this. its going to be mainly backup/audio streaming, but maybe game also depending on how everything works out. this is what i have so far..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822145137 nice big hdd :) im also going to be putting in an 80gb hard drive for linux so i can reformat that if necisary and not lose everything. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128045 cheap, has decent (not really) integrated graphics http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371005 dont see a need for anything else... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145034 more for me :P going to give it my 1gb of ram. i dont think it will need more... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103199 crazy cheap, i dont think ill need anything more i will be building my own case XD going to have fun (always is but a smaller mobo this time so thats very good news for me) just going to use current mouse/keyboard and unplug them when un needed...dont see why i would need to keep them on there 24/7. goes the same with monitor. any other ideas? i just want something really cheap. the game i MIGHT host would be CS and thats a big maybe dont incorperate that into your thinking. thanks :) not sure what linux distro, but one of them probably ubuntu because its easy to setup

Re: building back up server
If your running Windows clients (don't believe you say) then just check out one of the many very cheap pre-built Windows Home Servers.
This will act as a NAS, allow you to also stream via MediaConnect (x360 etc), automaticaly backup all your Windows Clients and even act as a web server! It also does its own software mirroring which is extremley effective should you have a disk failure - its got these things called "tombstones". However, one word of warning, don't use it as an "open" file store i.e. open something like a Microsoft Quicken file on one of its shared drives as this will risk a loss of this file - its a known issue with MS. If your not running windows clients, forget everything i've just said
