Help for a friend's build.

Ok, here's the issue, a friend of mine cannnot post Bios on this combo Motherboard and CPU. Asus says he should try a P4?? He has a case # already. Specs say this combo SHOULD work (Core2Duo, 1333Fsb, LGA 775). He has pulled the battery for a full day, etc.. Asus says use an "older" CPU and flash the Bios. They won't do anything. Seems more like a DOA Mobo?

Would the Conroe 65nm make a difference here?

Input appreciated.

Eric

Re: Help for a friend's build.

Hello Ssrogg, I looked over the specs for that combo, and could see no reason why they wouldn't work. A few people had problems with that board but many said it's fine. Assuming it's not a hardware problem, I can think of three other things off the top to check.
1. Are you using DDR2 1066 memory?
2. Have you made sure to connect a 4 pin 12V power cable to the processor power port?
3. Is you power supply strong enough for the devices you are running, prefer. 550W or more?

If so, then I'm not sure, and if not then that will probably help.

Worst case scenario, return the motherboard for replacement.

Re: Help for a friend's build.

Thanks for the replies. Not sure of his other system specs. Asus seemed fine with what he had, but kept trying to get him to use an older CPU. Makes me wonder if he is running too small of a PSU. Gonna have to call him and find out more. Just seemed odd to me.

Re: Help for a friend's build.

I looked a bit more and found this also. It may be that your board has the original BIOS 304 installed... that processor won't work unless it's BIOS 401 or greater. The BIOS on your board should be the last 4 numbers on a sticker near the RAM slots. If it says 0304 or less, then that IS your problem. To fix it, you can RMA the board to ASUS and they will upgrade it for you, or get a processor that works with your BIOS, load it and POST, then CAREFULLY flash the BIOS to the newest version, then put back in the CPU you want. The compat. list is here

Re: Help for a friend's build.

Excellent, thank you. Will call him later today. He lives in NY, I live in Or. Haven't been able to talk at him about it yet. But I will!
