First time builder, dont know much about anything

I am looking into parts to build a pretty decent gaming tower without paying a ton for top of the line parts. I ordered everything but the video card and CPU. So far I got (in the mail)
1)Power Supply www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=11180AC9570
2)DVD Writer: www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=12600DR6627
3)Hard Drive: http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=14120DR2390
4)Motherboard:http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=11830BD1399
5)Case: www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=1037111049F
6)RAM:http://www.directcanada.com/products...acture=CORSAIR

I am planning on getting the Asus Geforce 8800GT and the ntel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad Core Processor. Im thinking with the new quad cores coming out the price on the Q6600 will lower, what do you guys think? I cant really go back on the stuff I already ordered but maybe a little input on the CPU and video card? Just to be sure, is everything compatable? Thanks alot guys. I look forward to your reply

Yea it all looks compatible. Just make sure you have a decent cooler and not the cheapo ones on the cpu if you go quad core. And make sure you got a 64 bit os if your using over 3gb of ram.

Re: First time builder, dont know much about anything

ive been looking into the cpu fans a little bit. if you could recommend a few around 50 bucks or less that would be great. About the 64 bit OS. Is there a big diff in that and the 32 bit?

Yes , 64 bit os's have some compatibility issues with some programs that were not written for 64 bit pc's. Most newer programs will support 64bit as now more and more people are using it to get the full use of over 3gb.

as for a cpu cooler the zalmans are very good. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118004

Re: First time builder, dont know much about anything

ok I think I will go with the 64bit. Been waiting for the Q6600 to go down in price, it hasent to much so I think im going to go with a E4500. I read good reviews on that, decent for the money. Im kinda having second thoughts on the video card too, would anyone be able to give me a few ideas of good gaming ones for around $200?

32 bit OS will use 4gb of ram. it wont show up, but stuff that isnt controlled so much by the operating system, like drivers, will benifit and then other programs can use what is allocated to the OS. 4gb is better then 3 for 32bit

Does it matter what brand name? I noticed there is Nvidia GeForce, Evga and Asus.

Re: First time builder, dont know much about anything

ok I have all the parts accept for the CPU, could I go ahead and put everything together then add the cpu when it comes in or is it better to wait? (maybe it has to be added before some other parts?)
