[SOLVED] Problem starting system

I've built a few rigs and have almost no clue on this one I'm thinking power supply. When I power on the system the mobo's onboard LED's turn on but no fans start or any other signs of life.

video card: 8800 BFG
processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400
ram: G.Skill 4GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
mobo: ASUS CROSSHAIR AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX
psu: 550w

done builds before but never on a rig for gameing.

Re: Problem starting system

Hi Folken, first place to start is to make sure both the 8 pin and 24 pin power connectors to the motherboard and the video card power connector are seated securely. Only the highest quality and most efficient 550w PSU will power this system, but you should at least get some fan activity. If you still get no fans, remove the video card as it requires a lot of juice, and try to boot. If the fans spin, you'll need to get a higher output (650w-700w) PSU with multiple 12v rails. If you still get no fan activity, it could be a defective motherboard. Either way a 550w PSU is not strong enough to power this system without longterm problems. Mike

Re: Problem starting system

Thanks alot I unpluged the video card and got full activity with all the fans so I upgraded to a 750w power supply. Which was happly waiting for me when I got back from sea.
