Getting a new laptop/notebook?

Hi all, I've recently been looking at getting a new laptop for uni and I'd like to get some input or see if anyone has heard of any decent notebook deals. Any input will be greatly appreciated. I've used the specs format that was recommended for building PCs.

Budget: How much money are you willing to spend on the new build?
Maximum would be AUD$1200, but I'd like to spend less than 1000

Brands: Are there any brands of components you want or don't want?
I've heard good things from Asus and Acer and some negatives from HP, Toshiba, Sony. I'm not too bothered as long as it works, is durable and portable

Multitasking: Will you be multitasking with this computer and if so, how much?
I probably will be multi-tasking for work, assignments, etc. a fair bit

Gaming: Will you be gaming and if so, how much and how new are the games?
I'd like to be able to do some gaming. I know that getting a really good graphics card would mean sacrificing portability, but ideally, I'd like to get one around 128-256 MB. As long as it can run most games.

Calculations: Will you be doing any intense calculations or media encoding?
Well, apart from using AUTOCAD, Photoshop, Maple, probably not.

Overclocking: Do you plan on overclocking and if so, how much?
I'd like the option, but not entirely necessary.

Storage: How much storage will you need and what will you be storing?
Probably about 80 GB minimum. Fairly standard

Legacy Support: Will you need support for older hardware like parallel, serial, or PS/2 devices?
I doubt I would need this

Operating System: Do you want Windows XP or Vista, or Linux compatibility?
Not too bothered, ideally XP, but as long as it functions well

Case: Do you want help selecting a case and if so, how big do you want it?
I think this is non-applicable

Accessories: Do you want a keyboard, mouse, or other items included?
N/A

Recycled Components: Will you be reusing any components you already have?
N/A

Monitor: If you want a monitor, what size do you want and should it be widescreen?
N/A

Stores: Do you have any online stores that you prefer to purchase from?
Not particularly

Location: What country do you live in?
Melbourne, Australia

Re: Getting a new laptop/notebook?

Have a look at the Lenovo line they are pretty durable and the upper models have discrete graphic cards.
