New Build (In Progress)
Was looking for a computer that I would not have to upgrade to soon. Needed a replacement for my aging laptop that has been my primary computer for everything from watching movies, playing games (sorta), encoding and decoding DVD and video. Plus tired of the having to put everything on my external hard drives.
Here's a list of what I have come up with so far, I would like suggestions, comments or anything that might help me in this build. Antec Performance One P180 Silver cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 ASUS P5E LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz (Crucial 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit) OR (2x Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit) 2x HIS Hightech H387QS512NP Radeon HD 3870 512MB PHILIPS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe 2-Tone SATA 2x Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive |

Re: New Build (In Progress)
Note that if you go with 4gb of ram you will need a 64 bit os to support it. 32bit os's support a maximum of about 3gb's. Also the board supports 1066 and 1200mhz ram, I would shoot for some of that instead of the 667 and 800mhz you found.
Also if your only (sorta) going to game I don't think you'll need 2 video cards.(might cut down cost) (its optional). The rest of the parts actually look ok. The 3870's are very low power so that psu should run them in crossfire nicely if you go with two. I would have gone with seagate for the hdd's but western digital I've heard is ok too.

Re: New Build (In Progress)
I also would go with the Seagate drives, they come with a 5 year warranty, the Western Digital Caviar SE16 has only 3 years. It might not make a diffenrce now, but it will after 3 years if it goes out and you have no warranty. Mike
