PC Upgrade, Mobo+Proc suggestions?

Hey Guys,

Im wanting to improve my proccessor power as I currently have AMD 3000+ single. Not likin' amd any more so want to change to Intel. Im a computer pro but never upgraded my own mb+p so would like some advice.

Want
>Want to spend no more than £300 unless it makes futureproofing sense.
>I use PC for the odd newish game, watching HD movies, net, tunes, work, converting video formats; (many things at once)
>Would like to overclock (never done before) if it's fairly easy and not too dangerous (cant afford to replace proc)

Have
(and therefore must be compatible with)
>2*500gb sata HDDs
>IDE DVD RW
>Nvidia Geforce 6600GT
>Vista Ultimate

I live in UK and have been looking at dabs and ebuyer, so far these stick out:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129126

Any good?
Any better?
Im gonna have to reinstall vista aren't I?

Thanks Guys!

Leigh

Hi Leigh,

Take a look at this board:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132263

Do you have an AM2 processor right now? If not you will also need to upgrade your RAM. And if you have an AGP video card you will need to upgrade that as well.

I would personally also go with this combo:

Thanks that's great,

Yeah I have AGP forgot about that, graphics card could do with an update anyway, any recommendations for around £100 then?

what's the difference between the proc I chose and the one you chose?

Actually they are the same - I missed the fact that the one you chose was in fact also the G0 stepping which means its the lower power 95W version. I would get the boxed retail one you posted because that comes with a warranty from Intel, however I would still consider using the heatsink I posted.
