New first time build for Gaming. Look ok?
Ok I building a complete gaming system under $2700.
From what i have heard for big SLI rigs Intel quad core does best. At first I started looking at the top AMDs from my outdated experience on whats best. But is seams anymore Intel deals with the bottleneck of high end SLI better. I plan on playing FPS's like Crysis, COD4, BF2 2142. Ok so here it is in Full (all from newegg btw, seams to be the way to go) $280 Intel Q6600, $6 Arctic Silver 5 >> Plan to OC to ~3GHz<< $60 - ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler $220 - EVGA 122-CK-NF68-T1 LGA 775 nForce 680i SLI Motherboard $940 2x $470 ($100 rebate) EVGA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB Video Card $150 2x $77.00(40 rebate) - CORSAIR XMS2 (2 x 1GB) SDRAM DDR2 800 $20 - CORSAIR CMXAF1 Fans $140 2x $70 - WD 250GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive $43 - WD 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gbs Hard Drive >>For XP SP2<< $130 ($30 rebate) - OCZ 700W Power Supply $56 - Thermaltake 250 Watts Graphic power supply >>for 1 GTX<< $150 - Thermaltake Armor Series l ATX Full Tower Case $30 2x $15 - Scythe S-FLEX 120mm Case Fan >>seamed good for noise<< $190 - Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate System Builders Single Pack DVD $240 - Acer AL2216Wbd Black 22 5ms Widescreen LCD $75 - Logitech G9 USB Wired Laser Mouse $7 - LITE-ON Keys PS-2 Wired Keyboard Questions: does everything look compatible? Will I have enough cooling with the GTXs and the Q6600 OCed? Would anyone suggest any alternatives for a better system for the price? |

Re: New first time build for Gaming. Look ok?
You can do what you want but i think the new 8800GTS's with the G92 processor are just as good as GTXs.
Also 64-bit vista is kinda glitchy right now. And for gaming, the E6850 Core 2 Duo(3.0GHZ, 1333FSB) is better than the Q6600 in my opinion. That Graphic Powersupply looks neat, never seen one before. |

the grafics power supplys die on one 88000 (we had a guy) and you could just change your power supply to this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703009 and it will handle them in sli

Re: New first time build for Gaming. Look ok?
OK so E6850 Core 2 Duo over the Q6600?
Wont the Q6600 last longer before it outdates? I know back a few years ago one core at higher speed was better then a dual at a little slower speed, for gaming anyway. But now it seams newer games utilize the malti cores more then they used to. I keep hearing mixed thoughts on what processor to get. The "PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad (Black) EPS12V 750W Power Supply" will handle 2 GTXs and everything else in my system? If so that would be just as easy rather then the 700w + 300w. |

Re: New first time build for Gaming. Look ok?
that thermaltake "bABY" power supply for video cards is a real dog!
the PC Power & Cooling 750 watt is a beast and a cadalliac ! A+ also dont overlook the Thermaltake toughpower 850 watt I agree with poster above / the GTX is out shined and out priced by the new generation 8800GTS I dont subscribe to any gaming rig needing two of those cards ! but its your $$$$$ as for Quad core/ you are atleast one year and more ahead of the software >>>>> 4 cores will not be fully utilized and optimized for atleast another 18 months! I also would go with the E8840 dual core that EVGA motherboard (680 chipset) is a real flaky / finicky board; you will pull your hair out with that sucker! I did I would much rather abandon SLI and go with a P35 chipset that overclocks like "a champ" Gigabyte P35-DS4 or if you got the money the P35-DQ6 they are 1333mhz FSB and take the better & noticibly faster memory controller Bearlake chipset !! far better than the EVGA 680 which tops out at 1066mhz and uses the old memory controller ! http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.c...d=2118&page=13

Re: New first time build for Gaming. Look ok?
with an AM2 processor ?????? intel is kicking them around now like dogs
the new amd barcalona cpu and nforce7 were suppose to pull AMD out of the gutter >>>> but it aint gonna happen AMD has got to get back to the enginerring board and come up with something totally brand new and faster than intel; but first they need to throw their dead weight out of the boat (ATI) and do it soon before AMD is too far in the hole!
