New computer

I am not sure if this is where I should post this but looking around I couldn't find anything that was what I needed. I do not want to build a computer due to the fact that I am not very good when it comes to computers. However I was looking into buying a computer for gaming purposes. The type of games would be playing would be mostly RPG's that are somewhat new. I have a budget around $700 dollars and would prefer to run XP. That price would be for the PC itself and not for the accesories or anything. However that does not mean I want a $699.99 computer with nothing else included. I am a poor college student so the cheaper the better (while still being good). I was looking around and found this PC http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Intel-Dual-C...QQcmdZViewItem I wanted to know if you thought this was any good or just crap?

Re: New computer

The one you found is pretty good for the price. The video card kind of sucks. But i'll still see if i can find something better.

Re: New computer

After reading though the page you posted that computer doesn't come with a operating system. Farther down on the page is a customize button so i went in and customized the same pc only with a better video card and an operating system and a better power supply.
Its came out to about 727$

But if you take out the os it'll be 100$ less

Re: New computer

The power supply in that PC is a very power quality unit, and would need to be replaced.

EDIT:

Nice input Emosun. What PSU did include in the upgrade?

Re: New computer

Still not working Emosun, it probably needs the cookie from your PC to know the configuration you chose.

Here are the PSUs that I see available and the only 2 I would recommend are the Trio and Toughpower.

430watt Cooler Master eXtreme Power RS-430-PMSR $19
430watt Thermaltake TR2 $29
550watt Cooler Master eXtreme Power RS-550-PCAR $49
500watt Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500 $69
650watt Cooler Master eXtreme Power RS-650-PCAR $79
650watt Antec TruePower Trio 650 TP3-650 $109
700watt Thermaltake Toughpower W0105 $149

Re: New computer

Hmm ok, Well the settings I used were the same pc he picked, but I went with the 8600 256, and go with the antec trio, and that should be a pretty good pc. If you do get 4 gigs of ram with it be sure to get a 64 bit os such as xp 64bit or vista 64bit.

heres the customize page

Re: New computer

Thanks for all your help. Do you think it would be cheaper if I waited a few months to get an upgraded graphics card (probably in the summer when I have more time/money) Also would the XP Professional be a 64bit. Or would I have to buy something else? what are the benefits to a 64bit vs. the 32 bit? If the OS that ecollegepc has is not 64bit is there another place where I can still buy XP legally?

Re: New computer

I don't think it would be cheaper to wait for the cards to come down in price but i do think you should get something with a 8600 or better. The advantage of a 64bit os is it supports the 4gb of ram in the pc. So you could get 4gb of ram and xp 64bit, or 2 gb of ram and just use xp 32 bit. And on the customize page they have an option to include the os.

Re: New computer

So are both the XP pro and home that they show 64 bit? Or would I/should I buy the more expensive one?

Re: New computer

oh i see what you mean. apparently they dont have xp 64bit only vista in 64bit, you could get vista 64bit which would work just fine or get xp64bit somewhere else.

Re: New computer

The disadvantage of 64bit XP is the lack of driver and software support.
