After buying OEM too many times, I have decided to build my own. I am looking for any suggestions for improvement or any criticisms (be nice) of my choices. It has been a while since I had a business putting systems together, I will not bother mention to processor back then in those dinosaur ages.
So far, my intial picks are: 1.) M.B. = EVGA nForce 680i SLI motherboard, socket 775, DDR2, 1333MHz FSB 2.) CPU = Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz 3.) VIDEO = EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX, 768 MB DDR3, with Crysis Game 4.) RAM = (4) 2048MB DDR2 800 MHz PC6400 (8 GB) 5.) HDD = (2) Seagate Barracuda 250GB, 7200rpm, 16MB cache, SATA-300 in RAID-0 configuration 6.) P.S. = Ultra X3 ULT40064 1000 Watt Modular power supply, SLI, PCI and SATA ready My questions to date are: 1.) Cannot find a SLI chipset motherboard that supports DDR3 memory, all of the motherboards are crossfire only, Intel X38 chipset and not NVIDIA SLI. Is there one? 2.) Should I go with Crossfire and two video cards that are a little cheaper and use a motherboard with DDR3 memory instead. Like the ATI 38xx series video cards. 3.) Choosing a case is difficult, so many choices. Wish to have room for liquid cooling. I like big cases with lots of room and better air flow. 4.) Operating system will have to be Vista unfortunately, but should it be 32 bit or 64 bit? 5.) Keyboard, mouse and monitor not important issues, have a few of them. But if you have a favorite, let me know. I prefer a wireless mouse. Thank you for your suggestions. Update. I think I will go for a 780i SLI motherboard instead, just in case I come into some money and want three graphics cards. I think I may try faster memory? Not sure.
