Memory issue or bad mobo

I have in the last three days built a budget computer for my wife. I built it out of the case to make sure everything worked. All the parts are tested good, except the new mobo. I finally installed the parts in a case and I'm having a problem with data corruption. I have had to start over twice after loading an extensive amount of software. I'm running a GIGABYTE GA-M61P-S3 and AMD 5000 x2 BE, 2x1 Gb Corsair XMS2, and my problem is that my memory requires 2.1v and the board defaults to 1.8v. The newest bios give a whiff of voltage increase for the memory, but will still not run it at it's rated speed no matter what the voltage. I'm getting a mix of normal post beep, to no beep, to one long strange (two tone) sounding beep. It boots everytime, but it has hung twice and upon hard boot it hangs on the next post and the OS is not the same afterwards. I'm at that point again, so today I ordered some 1.8v memory. I have run all diagnostic tests including Seagate HD tests, Memtest86 x9 passes, Prime95 for 12 hours. I installed an 8600GT to play COD4 for a couple of hours and not one problem or error. If after I install the new memory and it happens again I'm going to send the board back. Anything else to try or consider? Mike

It's an Antec 350 with 2x 17A ,12v rails. Mike

What are the timings of your memory at that voltage?

Re: Memory issue or bad mobo

Could a bad partition cause the MBR to corrupt itself on a hard boot? There have got to be better utilities to partition and format a drive than the native Windows tools. Any linked here on the forum? Mike

Re: Memory issue or bad mobo

Just something to remember, all JEDEC DDR2 RAM runs at 1.8V. This is the standard voltage for DDR2 RAM. Depending on the speed and timings of the RAM, you usually can usually use the stock voltage. For example, if you have DDR2 800MHz RAM that has no defects, you should be able to run it at 5-5-5-15 1T with no voltage increase. You may even be able to go down to 4-5-5-15 1T. Voltage increases on things like the CPU and RAM should be done as a last resort to achieve stability.
