My Future Build...

This is (hopefully) my plan for a computer I am going to build. This PC is lightly based off of Blackduck's build, but I'm going with AMD and I'm changing a few parts.

CPU
Black box AMD athlon 5000+ - $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103194

Cooling Fan
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler- $20
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185125&Tpk=ARCTIC%2bCOOLING%2bFreezer%2b64%2bPro%2b92mm%2bCPU%2bCooler

Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard - $220
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128074

Case
RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WBP Black SECC STEEL ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply - $85
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156062
It's nice since it comes with 4 fans and a power supply

Graphics Card
GIGABYTE GV-NX88T256H GeForce 8800GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card- $205
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125085

RAM
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory -$37
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145034

Hard Drive
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130314

DVD drive
Sony NEC Optiarc Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM
16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM IDE 20X DVD±R DVD Burner - $25
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827118003

-Just added-
Power supply
OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W Power Supply 100 - 240 V - $105 Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002

this comes out to about $867 on newegg. If anybody thinks that there are compatibility issues here or something, let me know. Even if you think that this sucks, go ahead and tell me before I go and build it. I was also wondering if I should buy a better power supply. I don't know if the 500W power supply that comes with the case is adequate for all this hardware.

Yeah, you don't want to be stuck with a cheap case power supply. Look at these two alternatives:

Re: My Future Build...

OK. Any other problems with this setup? wait.....hold on....when I look at the picture of the case and where the mobo is supposed to go, there are funny slots instead of screw holes. Does my mobo work with this case?

Re: My Future Build...

I have personally worked with that case in a recent build so I can help out. The motherboard tray is mounted to the right side panel (facing the front of the case) but it does accept standard ATX and mATX boards. My only other comment about that case is that it didn't come with as many screws as I would have liked to see, and that the side panel fan over where the CPU heatsink would be comes setup as an exhaust fan when it should be an intake fan. I would also add one of these:

Any other case suggestions? Also, I was wondering how this compares with Blackduck's PC?

Re: My Future Build...

Right now the Intel dual core will beat the AMD dual core, but I sense a bright future for AMD in the quad core business if they can just get those clock speeds up more.
