Getting a gaming notebook but...
Hey everyone. I have a confusion that has been annoying and frustraing me for the past 2 weeks. I hope you guys can help.
I have a chocie between a 17" 1440x900 matte screen or a 17" 1920x1200 gloss finish. I am not going to do anything except games and word docs and stuff lie kthat, no video, no multimedia, no pictures. After consulting a friend of mine, the pro/con list looks lke this. Pros for 1440x900: 1. proper sized native resolution/wont make oy ugo blind 2. no glare 3. less power consumption 4. cost 5. it is possible to upgrade the screen by yourself 6. 720p Pros for 1920x1200: 1. more screen real estate for pictures 2. 1080p I dont know what else is a plus for the high res. in terms of upgrading it, if i get the low res and lke it, great, if not 300 to upgrade it unless i wait for a price drop. if i get high res and like it i spent 190 instead of 300 , if not, downgrade to either 1440x900 gloss or matte. Gloss isnt an issue since there are antiglare things. I honestly dont know how to make this decision. Please help, thank you very much. I was also told that no matter what your monitor res is, the game will play its best as long as the monitor is at its native res. PS, its an Alienware area 51 m9750 so the specs are high, so no worries about that. Last edited by atiffarooqi : 10-27-2007 at 12:35 PM. |

Re: Getting a gaming notebook but...
I would go with the WUXGA screen because you can always increase the DPI if things are too small. Just a word of caution - you should look at other alternatives because there are many people who have had problems with Alienware. I generally tend to avoid them if at all possible.

Re: Getting a gaming notebook but...
I thought about that but i realzied the quality would drop plus i realized that the 1920x1200 really wont hlep games much, worse comes to worst ill swap screens in the future. I think im going to go with the 1440x900. If i get higher and dont lke it, il have spent that money plus the money for a lower res.

Re: Getting a gaming notebook but...
You might want to see if you have a friend with a WUXGA screen and one with a WXGA+ screen simply to look at each and compare them.
