OEM Purchase
How do I go about purchasing Win XP home to install on computers for sale in a business? Do I have to pay retail and install, or can I buy 1 CD and install and put a sticker with Key Code in case and purchase about 5-10 at once?

you can buy volume licences directly from microsoft and thereby install from one source.
Or you can buy individual OEM cds and install each onto it's respective machine - OEM licenses being cheaper than retail, and volume licenses usually cheaper still. Legally you need to be a system builder to purchase OEM licenses and the installation of an OEM product/software makes you responsible for support, not the original supplier. |

Remeber that you must include the OEM sticker (adhered to the pc) as well as the original OEM cd (not a dupe or restore partition).
Good to see new builders looking to keep it legit.

OEM and other licenses....
If you are looking to sell computers to the consumer market, and try to be more competitive with Dell and the like, you may have alot of luck going with Microsoft's "System Builder" licenses.
I'm currently staying up a little late to check out the latest "BUY LOCAL" campaign launching tonight. Basically, your customers can redeem any system purchase that includes a system builder license for a bonus pack. Last time around the bonus pack included free round trip airfare, and a bunch of other goodies. It sure opened the eyes of alot of my customers. In addition, Microsoft provides anyone registered in their partner program with some great, professional looking advertising material. It really makes being a small business that does custom builds alot easier.... For more details, check out: http://www.localpcbuilder.com or search google for microsoft buy local. |
