Most cities or counties require that you have an occupational license to conduct business within their jurisdiction. This applies to ANY business. Computer techs don't have to have government approval to be computer techs, but they do, in most jurisdictions, have to be licensed to conduct business and sell their services to the public.
In Florida, additionally, I must charge sales and use tax in any service call in which I alter or repair tangible personal property. If I install a printer driver, I don't have to charge sales and use tax, but if I install a motherboard, then I must.

Hi Jason, i see you are in FL too. I am in Central Florida looking to open up shop. I would really appreciate any State law info you can share, oh and where is a good place to purchase equipment and components. Thanks in advance!
