What is an Occupational License?

Quote:
Start reading about how to get an occupational license and about taxation in your state.
Do techs have an occupational license? I live in Texas. I tried to do a search on Occupational License's but most of the results were about Driver Licenses; of course, I included Texas in my search. Is this something that every state has? Something like becoming a lawyer or a doctor for techs?

Thanks.

Most cities or counties require that you have an occupational license to conduct business within their jurisdiction. This applies to ANY business. Computer techs don't have to have government approval to be computer techs, but they do, in most jurisdictions, have to be licensed to conduct business and sell their services to the public.

In Florida, additionally, I must charge sales and use tax in any service call in which I alter or repair tangible personal property. If I install a printer driver, I don't have to charge sales and use tax, but if I install a motherboard, then I must.
