Cpu Usage 100% When Playing Mpg Files

My current operating system is Windows XP with SP2. I am using Windows Media Player 10 to play mpg files. The problem is that some mpg files cause my computer to freeze up and puts my CPU usage at 100%. The problem seems to be random. I can play a mpg file normally but 10 minutes later than same mpg file will cause my CPU usage to go to 100%. I tried using quicktime but the same problem exists. I tried viewing all processes via task manager and sometime see Explorer.exe go to 99%. Any suggestions or advice to correct this problem would be greatly appreciated.

First I'd want to know your machine specs. If it's slow enough this might be normal, in which case you probally wouldn't want XP on your system. Aside from that I'd blame spyware

Compaq Presario R3000 series (Laptop)
AMD Athlon 64 Processor
512MB SDRAM
60 gig hard drive
