Windows XP- big problems!

Hey. I have recently formatted and reformatted my hard drive just as a routine thing to make things run better. I do this now and again and usually there aren't any problems. But this time, there seem to be loads of software problems. Several programs start up then close themselves instantly. Like my DVD player software. Which is annoying. Also, when I try to stream some Real media in IExplorer, it crashes. Occasionally, the problems are so bad that the computer restarts itself without any warning. It all seems really bizarre. There must be a way out of this?!

Thanks.

Did you also reload all Windows Updates? Many of these are necessary to access the content and perform some of the tasks you describe.

I'm sure these applications have worked fine in the past without me having to install updates... but anyway, I can't install updates. After I do, I can no longer get rid of the need to activate XP (via a crack).
