Meta tags is a good way for your forums to get noticed within search engines, what does your forums offer? Meta tags are basically keywords that search engines use to find specific items, or sites. You need to think like the person searching and notice the keywords they might use to find you. Another technique is advertising on other sites and you advertise for them like an exchange. They put a link to you on their site and you put a link on your site to theirs. Try and find sites that will relate to yours, this way if you have limited bandwidth usage you only get people who are actually interested. Hope this helps.
