Web Design

I'm currently looking to start a website development business specialising in websites and other graphics such as letterheads, business cards and logo's etc... Do you think i could make a stable business, mainly attracting online customers. Does anyone else have any good online business idea's, the gap in the market i was looking is gaming clans and small businesses. I'm looking to make a small income as a part time job. Any idea's, suggestions of other online businesses, improvements would really help. Thanks

Regards,

Dean

just design or production as well ?

u need to remember if production is a concern, you need to look at the business cards printing machines etc. also possible webhosting plans for websites

im venturing out on some retail business ideas that dont exist yet in my area so we will see how far this goes

Is there any particular reason why you want to target online customers? It seems like the services you are offering could satisfy your local market. When it comes to online web-design, you are going to find that it is very difficult to compete just to get exposure.

You may want to scout local businesses that run traditional "brick and mortar" companies. Many of these businesses are realizing that they need to get online in order to compete.

In regards to FR4655 post about production hardware such as printing machines, you could consider outsourcing the actual printing to someone else. For instance, many of the online printing companies such as VistaPrint.com allow you to upload a design. What you could do is design the actual business cards and letterheads and have VistaPrint or some other company print them out. You could charge for your design services. The cost of printing is pretty cheap these days.

Do you think forums make a business website look less professional?

Network, and I don't mean the computer kind. This market is not online so much, but is certainly small business sector.

I know a local graphics guy (tim) doing exactly what you want to be doing; he hooked up with a local office products store (a UPS Store), showed them what he could do on letterheads, cards, business cards, banners, etc., and the UPS store became his "storefront" - they would take orders, email him the specs, and he would turn it out. The UPS store got a small % of the sale. Brought more business in for them, so it was a win win for both.

The owner of that UPS store showed his fellow local disctrict UPS stores what he was doing, and now Tim is doing it for about 13 UPS stores.

It's not online biz, but there is a huge market for it. Give it a thought, good luck!
