Alright, so I have been playing World of Warcraft for a while now, and I have some friends who asked me to play on a private server with them. The problem is...the private server has not been updated to the public server's patch. Now, I've figured out how to delete the updated patch to go back to the earlier patch. I've also figured out how to re-install the updates for the patch (much easier). However, the process of switching to the private server's patch takes about 2-3 hours...
Is there a way to switch between the two different-patch versions of the game without having to [delete]+[repair]+[re-install patches] every time? To rephrase...I want to be able to play on the private server and the public server whenever I want to, without having to wait 2-3 hours (for repairs mainly) in-between. Edit: I've tried redownloading the game client, then saving it to a different drive to see if I could install the program in multiple places, but that dídn't seem to work (And from what I've read on this forum...is impossible). I even tried renaming the program in the hopes that I could perhaps install it under a different name, but I couldn't get that to work either (and may also not be possible). I was thinking I could perhaps make a copy of the post-repair file and use that as my clean slate (so I wouldn't have to worry about the repair program), then I would only have to install patches. However, I'm not exactly sure how I would go about making a back-up copy of that file. Let me know if I'm anywhere in the ballpark of possibility to accomplish this task. I know I'm not going to be able to do this without some advice. Thanks for your help ahead of time! Last edited by Yerokmi : 03-24-2008 at 11:26 PM. Reason: Added stuff I've tried |

Re: Seperate Install Banks?
Hi Yerokmi and welcome to TSF,
Trying to install the same game twice will override each other in the registry. In short terms its impossible. You could ask the people to update the Private server otherwise you are stuck with what your currently doing.
