Unknown Lag Issues
Hello friends, I have a very big dilimema with my new PC. After playing a game such as WarCraft III Frozen Throne, or Counter-Strike Source (varying) I experience lag from an unknown source.
1)My internet connection is not to blame, I even have the problem in single-player mode. 2)My graphics isen't to blame. I have the latest drivers, and it remains very stable temp. during peak capacity. (Core temp 40 C.) 3)Adware/Spyware/Virsus etc etc is not to blame, I run programs to clean my computer very often. 4)My system can handle the games (Nvidia 7800GTX, 2Gig Corsair XMS cas. lat 2 RAM, Athlon AMD X2 3800+) Further Description of the problem: Well, the lag doesn't usually start right away while gaming, and if it does, I'm usually able to restart my computer, get back into a game, and it will remain absent for a various amount of time, then return. It happens in all my games, offline/online, with stable temperatures and updated drivers. I have no idea what is causing this problem. I have a very farfetched idea it might be something with my Nvidia Stripe (raid 0) and I if I get no answers here, I just might remove my stripe. :( |

What else is your PC doing when this happens? On mine I get a big of lag when playing Guild Wars if the 160GB drive is accessed.

Well, just like today, I got on Warcraft III with no problems at all. I played for about an hour. The times vary, but if I am to play later tonight for a few hours or so, I'm sure the problem with arise. Basically, it appears I get about 2 fps, although, checking in Counter-Strike, I am getting 175 FPS in CS:S. It looks like I have 2 fps, but that's not the reason. hmm...

I had a very similar problem recently. I have a similar system to yours (see my signature), except I don't have a RAID config. But I had intermittent lag problems in almost all of my games, even older ones which the computer should have handled no problem. I tried many many things to get it to work, and in the end it kind of just came good. The last thing I did with it before it came good was I replaced one of my video cards. A couple of weeks later, the computer just settled down and has worked perfectly since.
If you don't get anywhere with other, easier-to-try ideas (like removing the RAID config), I'd try replacing the video card. It seemed to work with my computer...
