Steam Issues

Hello Games Team,

Recently after purchasing a copy of Half Life 2, I had to install it via steam. When installing it, my friend was here with me. I had no steam account so we chose his to log into.

Now the problem that faces me is:

After installing the game it worked perfectly. So I decided to get an account of my own, only to find after creating the account that I haven't got Half Life 2 in my games list anymore. I can log into his account and play Half Life 2, I just don't want to as that is his account and stores his info on it.

Am I able to play Half Life 2 on my account? How do I achieve this?

Thanks,
Grove

What you can do is disconnect your connection to the net (just unplug it from your computer), and start up Half-Life 2 as per usual. It will try to connect to the account, find no internet connection, and then it will offer you the choice to start it in "Offline Mode". That will allow you to play without logginf in to any account at all.

As for getting it to work on your account (if you want to leave the net connected while you play), I have no idea. Steam is *****, and the best idea would have been to create your own account in the first place. Perhaps if you uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it, then tried to log into your account (you might have to uninstall HL2 as well, but I'm not sure) it might work. Good luck anyway.

Yeah, I am not really interested into logging into the account. I just basically want to play HL2. Thanks for the tip. I'll tell you how it goes.

well, you may of really screwed up. by installing hl2 in his steam account, you effectively told valve that he is the owner of that copy of hl2. once a valve game is registered to an account in steam, it can only be played on that account. now your only hope is that your friend had hl2 already, before you installed and logged in his account. if that is the case, then you should download the steam installer, and then just install steam. then install hl2 and when it asks for account info, then enter yours. if this doesn't work, well you just bought hl2 for your friend.
