CDRW/DVD drive?

Hi, I've recently been upgrading my computer and have more or less finished.

I thought i'd test my new comp with a few games. I went for BF2. I tried to install it but it came up with an error, i can't rmember what it is mdb something i think. i then upgraded my cpu as i was going to any way, and i tried again to install BF2 but the same thing happend. I borrowed far cry from my friend and thought i'd try that out. while installing the game it comes to an error 1335, which basically says it could be the disk pack or trouble reading from the disk. i know that both games work as they are installed on my friends computer.

I'm thinking that its my CDRW/DVD drive as i think i saw some one was having the same problem with far cry.

my specs are:
Nvidia geforce 6600 gfx
ASRock P4v88 mobo
P4 3.2Ghz cpu
a gig of ram
and the drive i have is a CDRW/DVD SM-308B

I'm going to have to buy a new drive as i want to eventually put back the old dell i had and give it to my dad, so any good drives you can recommend?
Thanks.

If this is a burn then it's probably some built-in copy protection.

A burn? These are the original game disks if thats what you mean, but yes the drive can write CD's but not DVD's which they both are. perhaps if i were to use the CD versions then i might have better luck.

From the installshield website:
  1. Reboot the machine and try the installation again.
  2. Clean the CD-ROM. Use a soft cloth to gently clean the disc.
  3. Run the install locally by copying the installation files to your local hard drive. Using Windows Explorer browse to the location of the installation files. For example, if the installation is on a CD, browse to the CD-ROM drive. Copy all the contents of the installation location. Temporarily paste them to a location on your local hard drive. For example, the Desktop. Run the install file, for example, setup.exe or install.exe.
  4. Install the Windows Installer Engine.

If none of this works, you may have a failing drive. As a replacement, I can strongly suggest the Benq DW1640 or if you want to spend a little extra, the later Benq DW 1655 is another good option.
