Lag issue with every game
The problem goes as followed. i start up a game any game, but i want to play dragon age origins, well i start it up, load it and play it just fine but after 2 minutes or around that time i have massive fps lag, i cant do anything anymore not even go to my desktop, after 30 secs the lags stops and i can play for another 2 mins and then the lags comes again, and so on and so on. this problem happened after i recovered my computer. i have tryd updating drivers, deleting and reinstalling drivers, lowered graphics in game, reinstalled the game, run as administrator, reinstalled directx, but no luck, its been goin on for so long and i really want to fix it, i just dont know how to do it. i have it on every game, even settlers heritage of kings, a game from 2003? im just clueless here, my graphic card is Nvidia 9600m GT, dual core 2.4, centrino, 3GB ram, 320gb hard disk i tought the game was maybe a bit to high for my computer but its on every game
well i would appriciate it if i got help thanks |

Re: Lag issue with every game
Hi and welcome to TSF.
This sounds most like an overheating issue, considering you have a laptop and they are very prone to overheating. Download Everest and use it to check your temperatures, both while idle and after 10 - 20 minutes of playing (or when the lag occurs). Post the temps back here.

Re: Lag issue with every game
Your GPU is running way too hot. What were your CPU temps? Regardless of what they were, your computer is overheating, this is causing the lag spikes. Try to clean out any dust from your laptop, but I you're almost certainly going to have to invest in a cooling pad like this one.

Re: Lag issue with every game
Hello jeffrey,
your GPU is overheating to a dangerous levels you need to get a laptop cooler ASAP!! this one is recommended: ANTEC Cooler Price: 58$ it could be a bit expensive but it's the best cooler you can get for a gaming laptop and yes, the overheating is causing all the lag EDIT: Lord Sirian Beats me to it

Re: Lag issue with every game
Well I wouldn't say its the best laptop cooler there is the NXZT cooler that has 3 120mm fans that should cool a laptop very well but its around $70 to $80. I just want to give you options. I won't be recommending the cheaper coolers with 80mm fans since the air flow is tiny and it seems like such a waste of money
NZXT Black Aluminum Notebook cooler w/ 3 120mm adjustable fans Model CRYO LX - Retail $70 or you can get the antec cooler. My girlfriend owns it and really does make a laptop a lot cooler. Its almost like putting a low rpm rotating room fan under a laptop. Last edited by Mcninjaguy; 11-09-2009 at 01:17 AM. |

Re: Lag issue with every game
im about to buy the cooler, but its this intern or extern? is just makes no sense if its extern, how will this cool my computer down? this is new to me as i have never seen anything like it before
i vacuumed my computer, by doing so it just slowed down the process of the GPU getting to the high temp slower so yes, i agree now it is my computer overheating so a bit of info on the cooler would be cool ty |

Re: Lag issue with every game
I have a 120mm heatsink/fan on my CPU and my temps get about as low as 32C or so. A laptop CPU has a tiny fan with a tiny heatsink that doesn't do that good of a job.
What laptop cooler does is allow the external of the case to have good airflow upon since the heat inside a laptop can't be vented very well so it will just heat up the whole laptop including enclosure. So if the enclosure gets vented then the heat can escape faster keeping it really cool. Since the components are really close to enclosure then it acts as a giant heatsink. With a desktop computer keeping the outside case doesn't work since the components are spaced out a lot farther. It works on the same premise though. Airflow makes for heat to escape faster and the only difference is that desktops are built to made like a air tunnel so heat can escape with fans blowing in air and fans blowing out air. |
