Random low FPS in game

I typed a few paragraphs and wasnt logged in, so i'm not typing this entire thing over

So I will be playing a game, and about 10 - 20 minutes into playing, it will go from perfect fps, to about 5 fps.

I have:

Nvidia Geforce 9100
about 8 gigs of ram
Vist Home Edition

Hello and welcome to TSF

download SIW from my sig, open it and choose "Sensors" under "Hardware"
check the temps.
play a game for about 10 to 15 mins or when the lag starts, minimize it and recheck the temperatures again.
please post both temp states (idle, under stress)

Well there's your problem it looks like your integrated graphics card is boiling at 125C. Can you double check the temps with GPU-Z?

oh man! it is boiling, there isn't much you can do for that graphics card as it is integrated but you can install an extra fan on your case, if the case can handle it, or maybe get a dedicated video card, it'll perform 200% better and it won't get that hot

Re: Random low FPS in game

On GPU-Z, it was 104C without playing a game. And I guess I should get a 4th fan.

There probably is no place to install it if you have a OEM computer. You should think about getting a proper case with good cooling. Something like this.

COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
$70

Re: Random low FPS in game

Some of these OEM computers have odd motherboards that don't fit in regular cases because of where the mounts fit. I know this one will work but I'm just saying this because of some slimline models by HP have a odd L shape motherboard because the case is so slim and small the DVD drives need to take room from the motherboard but this shouldn't be the case for you.

Motherboard specs

Form factor

* Micro-ATX: 9.6 in x 9.6 in
Its a micro ATX size motherboard so it should work fine with that case.

I also can't promise that this will work but it should have a lot better airflow than your current case giving you a better chance of reducing temperatures dramatically.

Re: Random low FPS in game

if you had a dedicated card, maybe you could do that by increasing the video card's fan speed, but you have an integrated card so it has no fan and it's built-in the motherboard
there is nothing you can do without getting a case, even if you want to get a dedicated video card, you need a new Power Supply and it'll cost you at least double the case price

Re: Random low FPS in game

With an OEM brand computer I expect nothing less than low quality and high temperatures with a poor case design. The company will do anything to cut corners and make a bigger profit margin. They do this to cover their warranty but they would not have to do this if they made better quality computers. Its too bad that most OEM companies have retards for CEO's.

Re: Random low FPS in game

I have a temporary set up that can help until i get a new card, or a new casing. I took off the side panel, and put a window fan next to the comp while its on. And I was expecting this to reduce the temp by about 10C, but it reduced by a whopping 60C!!! My comp should run fine till then.

Well there you go, you can see what extra case fans will do for your system and its longevity. I hope your computer is running better now.
