Entering Power Save Mode while Gaming..argg!
Sorry for reviving this thread but i stumbled upon it today having the same problem with world of warcraft. I also have the same system but my video card is a nvidia 7900. I also run windows XP
My problem used to be like your but now it's to the point where even on a reboot the monitor doesn't wake up. I used to think it was my video card but i tried a different video card that doesn't even have the power cable (From the PSU). Same thing. I just have to wait X amount of time till I can get it to boot again (sometimes 5 minutes sometimes 5 hours). As for the over clocking the Dell bios on the XPS 710 there are like no options. You can't see the voltage, Heat or even over clocking. I noticed that this pretty much only ever happens in wow and when it happens it seems like the hard drive is loading a lot then it "entering power saving mode". There is also that sound effect when you removing a USB device (but that might be because of the USB ports on the monitor). Sorry for the long post but I tried a lot to fix this. any helps would be greatly appreciated |

Re: Entering Power Save Mode while Gaming..argg!
Manufacturer:
Dell Inc. Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 3070MB RAM Hard Drive: 246 GB Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS Monitor: Dell 2407WFP (Digital) Sound Card: SigmaTel Audio Speakers/Headphones: Mouse Surface: Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.090206-1233) it's a 750w PSU and it's 4 gigs of RAM but XP doesn't see it. The BIOS is currently version 1.1.0. it used to be 1.4.0 but that is around when i noticed the problem so i rolled back the version. |

Is the PSU the one that came with the computer when you first bought it?

Re: Entering Power Save Mode while Gaming..argg!
yes worked fine for about two years.
EDIT Worked fine when i was running vista. i think it was around the time i changed the BIOS this started happening.. I think the Version i got when it was shipped was 1.0.1 or 1.1.0 but if there is a problem with the firmware after version 1.1.0 i assumed more people would be screaming at Dell Last edited by Enhanced; 10-30-2009 at 09:55 AM. |

Download PC Wizard and check the voltages on the +12V, +5V and +3.3V rails. Post them back here.

Re: Entering Power Save Mode while Gaming..argg!
this error might be related... might not. but this is my event viewer. I did a chkdsk already
http://i611.photobucket.com/albums/t.../diskerror.jpg The Disk errors say The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D. I searched around online and it says to update my NForce drivers. but Can't find my driver CD and the Dell website has no NForce drivers on it. P.S. Sorry if my Desktop offends anyone. What are your voltages reading in the BIOS?

Re: Entering Power Save Mode while Gaming..argg!
@kyle: Your post was deleted because it contained content which went against forum rules. Let's leave it at that, and not hijack the thread.
Enhanced, since PC wizard doesn't work for some reason, try SensorsView, see if you can get your voltages from that. Since you're still using the default Dell PSU and you've been using it for a while, I'm thinking it's starting to fail, causing the issues you're experiencing. Now the voltages will probably confirm that, but if you have another PSU on hand, it might be easier to simply use that one instead of your current one to see if the problem stops.

Re: Entering Power Save Mode while Gaming..argg!
alright will give that app a try when i get home.
Just for the record this problem ONLY happens in world of warcraft. I don't play it anymore but I don't want this to start cropping up in other apps/games. |

Re: Entering Power Save Mode while Gaming..argg!
if you need voltage readings and those programs wont work, get everest ultimate edition, however you want(hope that make Lord Sirian happy) and under the sensor button in the computer tab it will show all of your voltage readings. hope this helps
Here is a pic of the voltage readings on my pc. |

Re: Entering Power Save Mode while Gaming..argg!
i purchased everest for work anyway but for voltage i only have the CPU at 1.33v. I don't see any +12v +5v GPU, etc.
EDIT I am toying with the idea of a reinstall back to Vista. My first tough was it was the PSU but if that were the case would i not have this problem all the time? or at least have it when i am playing call of duty, Aion, Heroes of newerth, watching movies, etc? But then again if it were not something hardware and something to do with the install why would it give me this issue when i am rebooting. Last edited by Enhanced; 11-02-2009 at 04:52 PM. |
